Placed in earth,

Written on stone,
guarded by time.

Placed in earth, preserved in stone.
Record
The covenant and the vessel of the Encoded Elixir were entrusted to the elders of the Line of Joseph.
One vessel.
The seal intact.
What passed into their keeping
was not a composition to be remade,
but a charge
to preserve what had been received.
The Vessel
The sealed vessel was enclosed within a casing.
The appointed elder received it
in the presence of witnesses.
No duplicate was made.
No second vessel
was issued.
The Stone
The covenant was inscribed in Koine Greek upon stone.
Not on papyrus.
Its words were given
a surface chosen to endure.
The stone bore the charge.
The vessel held
what the charge concerned.
The Placing
By instruction of the elder Suleman Zamar, both were carried to Takht-e-Sulaiman.
The mountain was chosen
for its distance from the centres of power.
Within it were placed
the enclosed vessel
and the inscribed stone.
Their position was not spoken
beyond those present.
The surface was left unmarked.
Nothing outside
announced the keeping within.
Custodianship
The location was not entered in writing.
Its knowledge was entrusted by word
within the lineage.
The stone preserved the covenant.
Those who received its charge
were to preserve the way to it.
No authority beyond the lineage
was granted access.
Condition of Keeping
The vessel was sealed when entrusted.
The charge was that it remain so.
It was not to be opened.
It was not to be altered.
It was not to be removed
except by the one
for whom it was intended.
This record preserves the condition
under which it was placed.
It does not open the vessel
to speak of what time has done within.
Closing Record
What was placed in the mountain
was not relinquished.
The place was withheld.
The obligation remained.
Let neither be mistaken
for forgetting.
